Not A Fashion Era to Relive

fFeast your eyes on this!

OK.  Fess up!  How many of you have made and/or worn something like this?  When posting this today on Etsy all I could think about was this:

Or this:
These illustrations are from Barbie Doll Fashions I and II by Sarah Sink Eames and are from 1969 and 1971 respectively.

I did, however, make a baby blue rayon tailored jumpsuit with buttons down the front and on the cuffs in the early 1980's.  I must really have had a death wish, because I had to completely undress every time I went to the bathroom.  I looked great, though, I must admit!

I'll leave you with another horror.

And B*rbie's complement.

Then there's this.  M*ttel was in love with yellow and orange for a while in the early 1970's.  And giant plaids.

The above two pictures from Book II cited above.

Yes, even B*rbie committed fashion faux pas in the '70's.
(I hope the Matt*l police do not get after me for not using the little R symbol.)

  1. There must be something wrong with me, because I love those patterns. I would buy them and make them in a second if they were my size. Love the cape....and the first jumpsuit. I am in!!! I have a sleeveless version of it and am just looking for the perfect fabric.

  2. I'm also liking these patterns, especially the first one and I do own something like it (was my mum's) and I've just uploaded some pics of me wearing it here: http://mollyandmango.blogspot.com/p/photo-blog.html Mine has a cowl neckline, I actually really like the neckline and view 1 sleeves and I bought a 70s jumpsuit pattern recently because I wanted to make another one. Oh dear, I'm going to go hide under a rock now...

  3. Well, Molly, you could always add 6" of lace to the bottom of it! lol

  4. I have thought about doing that lol. I used to have some funky blue velvet boots that I wore under it so the shorter length showed them off!

I forgot to mention, that bright floral print on the jumpsuit pattern is similar to the colour and pattern of fabrics one of my friends wore in the swinging 60s, she lived in Camden Road and was very much in the thick of it all, she has fab photos of her in garish colours and prints, extreme hair and make-up, we're really quite sedate today in comparison!
